Welcome to the
Monterey Bay Golfing Fellowship of Rotarians website. We are an
associate club of the Northern California Golf Association. As an
associate club we participate annually in all regional tournaments
conducted by the Northern California Golf Association.
Our membership
qualifies to play in these tournaments through competition conducted
by our club on a monthly basis.
As a member of
the MBGFR you will receive the bi-monthly magazine of the Northern
California Golf Association and the annual Blue Book of the NCGA.
Beginning in
2006 we will be providing our members annually a printed directory
of our membership and the current Rules of Golf from the United
States Golf Association.
It is important
to know and understand the rules of golf. Several rules have
changed for 2006 and will be noted in the new rules book.
We conduct a
club tournament each month, with four two day events throughout the
year. Please check our calendar and join us as a guest or member at
an upcoming tournament.
The MBGFR is
about golf, but more importantly it is about fellowship and
relationships. Through MBGFR many of our members have met other
golfing Rotarians from other areas and have developed satisfying and
rewarding friendships.
We look forward
to meeting you and playing golf in the near future.
Happy golfing,
Tom McKinney

The first item
of business was a proposal for the purchase of a Corporate
Membership in the Dukes Club. The cost is $1,200, which will
entitle our membership to use two cards. Each card allows for up
to three guests for discounted rates at Old Del Monte, Spanish Bay,
and Spyglass. There are also merchandise discounts. The
Board approved the purchase of the Corporate Membership. The Board
is hopeful that the Dukes Club Membership will encourage membership
in MBGFR.
The second item
of business was the approval of the financial statement.
Under new
business, several matters were discussed:
A concern over
membership and the numbers of players participating in the
events. The average turnout for an event is between 12 to 15
players. The Board will like to see a significant increase in the
number of participants that would allow for shotgun starts at
tournaments. In an effort to increase participation, tournaments
have been opened to family members of current members
The Board is
requesting feedback on the scheduling of tournaments. Tournaments
are to be scheduled on either Friday or Saturday. In exceptional
situations a tournament may be scheduled on another weekday. The
Board is also looking for feedback on multi-day tournaments. Are
there too many or not enough? Why is there a problem with the
Saddle Creek and Greenhorn venues?
The Board is
requesting that all members check the website monthly. That
members should make an effort to meet new members and encourage new
membership. Bring a friend / bring a guest to the next tournament.
The Board is
considering a proposal that if a member brings in a new member for
the year 2007 that members dues will be waived for 2007
The Board also
considered the issue of slow play. To that end, the playing of
provisional balls is encouraged. The Board is considering
changing the scoring system for next year’s tournaments that would
allow a player to pick up after the player has a score reflecting a
net double bogey.
