McKinney, Murchison subdue Corral

McKinney & MurchisonMBGFR President Tom McKinney and guest Jim Murchison combined for a best ball 62 to take first place honors at our Corral De Tierra tournament on April 14. Second place went to the team of Gerry Schock and Geary Engles (63) and Jim Pescatore and Don Hutton (64) took the third place money. Pescatore also took home closest to the flagstick money on #17 and Sid Williams claimed the cash on hole #8. 

Although he didn't finish in the money, Doug Berg had the thrill of the day when he recording his first-ever hole-in-one on the 130 yard fourth hole. Doug got to purchase $116 worth of drinks and was awarded the hole flag by Corral De Tierra Head Golf Professional Scott Ferreira. All tournament participants signed the flag. Congratulations, Doug!

Laughlin and Williams clean up in desert

Mike Laughlin & Craig WilliamsMike Laughlin and Craig Williams, the brother of member Sid Williams, teamed up to win the two day title in our annual Desert Kick Off tournament.

The two day event was again held at the Indian Wells Golf Resort on January 13 and 14 and attracted 26 players.

Second low net overall went to Sid Williams and Tom Warburton and Barbara Mehan and Renee Jorgersen were third.

The field played a best ball event on Day One on the Celebrity course. First low net went to Deb Knowles and Jim Brock, second went to Williams and Warburton and third went to Anne Johnson and Larry Rambaud. Closest to the flagstick winners were Barbara Mehan and Sid Williams. We also held a second shot closest to the flagstick on two par fours and those winners were Don Taylor and Craig Williams.

Teams moved to the Players course on day two and played both balls. Laughlin and Williams won a card off for first place over Tom McKinney and Gary Long. Third place went to Barbara Mehan and Renee Jorgensen. Renee also claimed both closest to the flagstick contests and money for second shot closest to the flagstick went to Bob Blum and Laughlin.

Players and guests again enjoyed a Saturday evening dinner at Castelli's Restaurante in Palm Desert. Bob Wyrick was recognized as the 2017 Trotter Cup winner. Wyrick has claimed the Trotter Cup seven times since it was first awarded in 1995.
