When you're hot, you're hot!

Larry RambaudAnd Larry Rambaud was hot! Larry took second low net honors on each day of our two day 2019 Desert Kickoff event and won the overall net award by seven strokes. Larry also picked up three of the four closet to the flagstick awards over the two days.

The MBGFR started 2019 with a new desert venue...the two Pete Dye courses at the La Quinta Resort and Spa. We played the Dunes Course on Day One and Gary Paden (69) edged Larry Rambaud (70) for the low net title. New member Ed Harris (72) was third and Jim Pescatore (75) was fourth.

We conducted a blind draw for partners during the tournament and Paden and Jon Vick (65) were first low net on Day One. Sheldon Heckman and Mike Mehan (68) were second and Rambaud and Myki McKinney (69) were third. Sheldon Heckman won the closest to the flagstick money on #8 and Larry Rambaud was the winner on hole #13.

On Day Two, players moved to the Mountain Course and Cheryl Dinjian (64) was the low net winner. Rambaud (65) was second and Jerry Schock (67) was third. Team winners on Day Two were CraigWilliams and Randy Lambert (62). Second place went to Mike Laughlin and Ed Harris (64) and third went to Jerry Schock and Pam Rambaud (65).

Larry Rambaud took closest to the flagstick money on both competition holes on the Mountain Course.

Jerry Schock (142) won a cardoff over Ed Harris (142) for second overall.

Overall team winners were Craig Williams and Randy Lambert (132). Losing in a card-off were Gary Long and Bob Varian (132) and Mike Laughlin and Ed Harris (134) were third.

Our tournament began with a practice round on Friday afternoon at The Citrus Country Club and that evening Tom and Janice McKinney hosted participants at their Citrus Country Club home for tacos and margaritas.  See photos of the Friday evening event by clicking on the "Pictures" link to the right.

Laughlin shoots age....wins cash

Shooting your age is hard work......Mike Laughlin "rests his eyes" after our November tournament. Mike Laughlin used his home course knowledge to shoot a superb round of 74-65 to claim first place in our November tournament at Nipomo's Monarch Dunes.

Jim Brock (96-67) was second and Pam Rambaud (98-70) was third.

Closest to the flagstick money went to Larry Nava and Laughlin.

Most of the 14 player field enjoyed a group dinner at Rosa's Italian Restaurant on Saturday evening. Attendees enjoyed a great meal and plenty of wine!

Thanks to Don Hutton for hosting our November event. The weather was perfect and the course was a challenge.
